Remember the sudden surge of National Rifle Association (NRA) donations in the 2016 campaign season? They coughed up something like $30M for NRA Republican gun-loyalists. We were gobsmacked. That was way above anything the NRA could field from legal domestic sources. And it happened at the same time as a bunch of questionable international money transfers, including Russian activities.
Well, huh! What could have happened? The Press covered it extensively. I might have written about it myself, once or twice. Hey, remember Maria Butina? The Senate investigated and found that the NRA was a Russian asset. The FBI investigated, too.
What happened? Nothing. The NRA didn’t even lose its tax-exempt status. Yes, your tax dollars support the Trump-Putin Axis and Russia’s campaign to use the Republican Party to undermine American power. Smile for the fucking camera.
And what about the evangelical money connection? Franklin Graham (son of Billy) met with Putin. Maria Butina was part of the gun-evangelical link, too. I’m sure that has nothing to do with Pat Robertson telling the faithful that Putin was “compelled by God” to invade Ukraine.
And all the loyal boot-licking NRA Republican lunatics are still telling us all their lies about why the shootings aren’t their fault. It’s all someone else. Sure, we have many more shootings than any other industrialized country and way more guns. Forget that! Whatever the cause, it isn’t being awash in guns and a culture that says that only the really cool people shoot.
