I’m super-happy to say that a group of parents and students have filed the first lawsuit against Florida House Bill 1557. Thank heavens, you know? They’re charging Governor Ron DeSantis’ Don’t Say Gay bill with being harmful, illegal, and unconstitutional, a violation of the First and Fourteenth Amendments and Title IX.
The law deliberately employs broad and vague terms, inviting arbitrary and discriminatory enforcement by parents, who are designated as roving censors and empowered to sue local school boards for damages based on any violation.
Florida Parents and Students Challenge “Don’t Say Gay” Law as Harmful and Unconstitutional, National Center for Lesbian Rights, March 31, 2022.
I’m raising a glass to you all and hoping for more.
The whole anti-trans thing is so freakin’ Republican. What a cartload of bigots and tiny-dick weenies. Did your poor little feelings get hurt the last time you and your friends beat up that little queer kid half your size? Maybe seeing those two girls holding hands left you so squishy inside, you just had to trip them down the concrete steps. I’m sure you’re torqued that the nonbinary kids get all the fun. Yeah, wearing that dress in seventh grade was just so much fun! Years of abuse and screaming hatred, but we got to pee in the girls’ room!.
Ron DeSantis: Florida Man stomps on little kids’ hearts to pump up his credentials. Not just willing, he’s happy when our children die by violence and suicide ’cause it makes him look manly. What a guy!
Dude, still telling us to shut the fuck up? I don’t care. See, it’s way too late. We’ll say gay, lesbian, trans, bi, queer, and all the rest. You don’t have to listen, but we won’t hide out of fear. Not anymore. You can’t shove us back into your bottle because even you know the truth now. We’re your neighbors, kids, uncles and aunties, bosses, servants, and the other labels. We’re all around you. It’s easy to explain: we’re just people. We’re your friends.
OK, maybe not your friend. More an implacable enemy. Make do with it, Scooter.
