Notice how little we hear from the GOP? We’re not just getting the usual Republican silence about the Democratic successes, either. Tell me, Senator, what does the modern GOP stand for? Crickets. How can Republicans not have any policies worth mentioning?
Ron Johnson Speaks the Truth
Now for the news, but this first part isn’t the new stuff. The only surprise about Ron Johnson’s openly racist take on the January sixth insurrection was that he said it out loud. I’m sure you’ve heard his crud on Joe Pagliarulo’s talk radio show:
Joe Pagliarulo: There no way that people you work with every day really think that you and I are White Nationalists because we believe conservative values, right?
Senator Ron Johnson: No, and I’m also criticized because I made the comment that on Jan. 6, I never felt threatened. Because I didn’t. Mainly because I knew, even though those thousands of people that were marching to the Capitol were trying to pressure people like me to vote the way they wanted me to vote, I knew those were people that love this country, that truly respect law enforcement, would never do anything to break a law, and so I wasn’t concerned.
Now, had the tables been turned and President Trump won the election, and those were tens of thousands of Black Lives Matter and Antifa protesters, I might have been a little concerned.
Little Racist Ronnie
So, the good Senator thought the violent and murderous White people were just having themselves a fun insurrection. They only murdered a few people, and the other stuff was only injuries. You know; broken bones, chemical burns, ruined eyes, nothing serious. Sure, they hurt hundreds of police officers, but it was just good clean fun. I mean, did you see how peachy-White they were?
Thank god they weren’t Black or Brown people. Or Antifa, which still isn’t a thing. Now, they scare the crap out of him.
Weirdly, that’s not the important part. Nobody I know is shocked that Ron Johnson is a racist fuck. That’s old news.
The critical stuff is the Republican silence. The GOP wants to be a ruling party, but they can only mumble and hedge. Force them to answer, and they’ll dodge. “I’m thinking it over,” they insist, or “I haven’t heard the interview,” or “It’s his decision what to say,” or whatever crap they just grabbed from the bottom of their cage. They’ll say anything at all and rush away. Well, anything other than, “What a jack-fool thing to say! That’s not what Republicans stand for.”
The New Republican Policy Silence
A Republican Senator just said, “I’m only scared of Black people.” Is the GOP bugged by that? Isn’t Ron’s extremely obvious fear of non-White people beyond the pale? No, an uncomfortable silence is the new Republican policy. No, they won’t disown Ron. Is there anything so miserably racist that Republicans will step back? I can’t really see a red line. And it isn’t simple indifference or hesitance; they embrace the worst trolls. Racism is their new goddamn GOP brand.
Anti-Asian Silence
Here’s another one. Mike Nguyen, who owns the Noodle Tree restaurant in Austin, criticized Texas Governor Greg Abbott for lifting the mask mandate. MAGA-Vandals tagged his restaurant with anti-Asian racist ‘slogans’ that police are investigating as “criminal mischief.” Did Abbott decry that racist vandalism? Did the broader Republican Party decry a hate-crime? It’s been more than a day now. Nope and nope. Just more Republican silence.
There’s a reason Republican silence is the response to every blurted admission: because that’s how they feel. The GOP wants every racist, White Supremacist, and male chauvinist to rest assured they have their back. As for the rest of us, they deny saying anything and hope we forget.
