A few days ago, I wrote: “Republican Brainworms Eat the Press.” I criticized the media’s slavish dedication to repeating Republican Rainworms. I’m using “Brainworms” to describe the parasitic memes the GOP coined to disguise their attacks in emotion). I singled out the Washington Post, but they’re hardly alone. And now we see them regurgitate the GOP “Stimulus” attack.
The Post has not gotten smarter since then. I shouldn’t expect better, I suppose. If they haven’t learned in the last few decades, they won’t see the light in a few days.
Anyway, here’s a headline in today’s Post: “GOP opposition to stimulus relief intensifies.” Yeah, no. Repeating a Republican press release isn’t ‘reporting.’ Biden’s proposal is a disaster relief bill. Republicans call it a “stimulus” because it’s easier to yell, “That’s a terrible bill. You’re paying people not to work!” Um, yes? It’s a pandemic, not an economic downturn; they’re completely different things. It’s not like people wouldn’t eat in restaurants if they could. Using the “Stimulus” measure is like complaining that a socket wrench set makes a terrible paintbrush.
Oh, and the “GOP opposition intensifies” part? Did anyone really believe that was true? Republicans with Democratic Presidents have been intractable since the early Carter administration. Is the Post suggesting that if Biden carves out enough GOP “concessions,” they’ll vote for it? That wasn’t true the last few times we tried. It’s more Republican hogwash.
