Let’s start from the top: Republicans are lying about almost everything. They are the party of bad faith. President Donald Trump’s Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh isn’t objective; he’s a party hack who obstructed his way through his Senate confirmation. He stole, he cheated, and sometimes fell to obvious, open lies to pretend he wasn’t just a Republican apparatchik. He’s barely bothering to pretend to any honesty. Why struggle when his nomination is supposed to be a lock? Did he even have to show up?
And now a law professor, Christine Blasey Ford, said that Kavanaugh tried to rape her at a party when they were in prep school. That should be bad, right? ‘Attempted rape’ is important. Professor Ford is telling the truth, even at great personal cost. She’s risking her life for this.
In response, Kavanaugh instantly lied with the ease of regular practice. The nominee swore (not under oath) that he’d never even been at that specific party. That’s odd considering that Prof. Ford had never mentioned where or when it happened. Kavanaugh cited his buddy, Mark Judge, who was in the room at the attempted rape that he swears never happened. (This is a guy who wrote a book about his life as a blackout drunk in high school.) Judge first wrote that he didn’t remember any such party with an embedded rape attempt. Not good enough; Republicans pressured him to do better. Judge changed his story, saying Kavanaugh never tried to rape the then-15 girl, but he recanted almost immediately. At this point, Judge said he wouldn’t testify under oath for love nor money.
Dr. Ford insists on an impartial investigation. Kavanaugh and the Republicans are tripping over their tongues as they lie about why that’s they can’t possibly allow any independent oversight. Ford has taken and passed a lie detector test; Kavanaugh already said he wouldn’t, ever, do such a thing. Dr. Ford has contemporaneous testimony and evidence that long predates the nomination; Kavanaugh has implausible lies and bluster.
Republicans have lied about almost every aspect of the nomination process. Sen. Chuck Grassley, the Judiciary Committee Chairman, lied. Sen. Orrin Hatch lied. President Donald Trump lied, over and over, although that means so little these days. These idiots knew something like this was coming – they’d prepared their lies ahead of time – but they still couldn’t make their lies sound plausible. What to guess if they’ll lie to us again tomorrow?
Outside of the Senate Judiciary Committee, Republican party members have already said that they will vote for Kavanaugh regardless of any facts. None of that is important to them, as they’ve openly said. What to wager whether they’ll pivot and work for the common good soon?
Worth mentioning that every one of them is violating their oaths of office. They’re all liars, mindless followers in the party of dishonor. I don’t care about how often Jeff Flake or Bob Corker pretend to be as honest as they like if they inevitably fall into another soulless, party-line vote.
The Republican party is the party of modern corruption. They act in almost perfect bad faith. They lie about every moral position they pretend to. I’m struck by how little they say isn’t a lie. All they consistently support is power, racism, and the interests of their corporate masters.
In the meantime, the Republican party is furiously working to ruin Dr. Ford and anyone near her. That’s what they do. It’s just like what they did for all the prior witnesses who might embarrass them.
News Update: The Republicans are reportedly hiring an outside counsel to ask Dr. Ford all the uncomfortable questions if she shows up on Monday. That way the Republicans won’t be on camera doing their dirty work
They don’t just act in bad faith, they’re dishonorable cowards.
