So, I counted Trump’s tweet since my last article. What the hell, it’s only 34 tweets so far.
(Hard to believe Trump actually holds down a day job. You’d think his boss would be getting on his case about wasting so much company time.)
The biggest issue on Trump’s mind — 8 tweets — were about Puerto Rico. Sort of. Three Trump tweets were how people were saying great things about him. Two were ‘hearts and prayers’ stuff. Empty, you know? Two more explained how things are really OK in Puerto Rico, despite the desperate pleas for help. Nope, no problem there.
Besides, you know… brown people.
Second place is Trump’s cultural war against… whoever. He tweeted five more times about the NFL. Trump is still really steamed that black players keep complaining about other black people being killed too much. Selfish bastards should be grateful we give them jobs at all.
You know… black people.
There’ll be another cultural war next week about something else just as puerile, and just as un-American. And that, somehow, will also only tar people of color.
Trump posted four tweets about tax cuts, putting that in third place. Good to know he cares so much. The fun part of that is how Trump contradicts himself so effortlessly. In speeches, he swears on his mother’s grave that this isn’t a cut, it’s revenue neutral tax reform, and that it doesn’t benefit him. And then in his tweets (and in several speeches) Trump calls it a straight tax cut. Which, of course, is the real truth. And yes, he lies about how much he’ll make off it.
His poor mother.
Trump posted three or five tweets complained about how mean the news media is to him by reporting what he says. It’s hard to be specific about that one, because even in 140 characters, Trump wanders around quite a bit.
Trump posted three more butt-hurt tweets lying about the Trumpcare vote totals. Swears he had the votes. Hard to talk seriously about a guy who can’t even count. It’s an argument against home schooling, anyway.
Overall, I kind of thought the President of the United States would have different priorities, but I can’t argue with the numbers. This is where he spends his limited attention.
Finally, no, I’m still not distracted. The Russians are still interfering with the US and our allies, trying to split us apart, while putting us at each others’ throats. And Trump, his allies and his family aided our enemies in that work. I notice most of the inner Trump circle were caught using private email accounts. (Lock them up, I suppose.) I haven’t forgotten Trump’s open racism, dog whistles, and race-baiting. Or the incredible levels of corruption by Trump, Trump’s family, their associates, their favorite oligarchs, and anyone else white and rich. (Really, Carl Icahn?) Or how Trump continues to lie about his taxes, which he won’t release because they’d show he’s a fraud.
I haven’t forgotten Trump’s utter incompetence at every aspect of the job. He’s just terrible at every part of this.
And no, I haven’t forgotten how Republicans are willing to accept every stupid, political, anti-American, venial and corrupt thing Trump does, while overlooking every illegal and incompetent action by his appointees. They demonstrate their loyalty every week along strict, party-line votes.
Even with majorities in both houses, the Supreme Court, and with the Presidency, Republicans still cannot govern. Thank god, since they’d destroy everything if they could.
