I’m not especially confident.

After President Trump fired FBI Director Comey, lots of people wrote lots of words.  I’m reading a lot about the political consequences for Trump.

But lemmie see…. How many of our institutions are left?  Trump already mowed down most of them.  The FBI is frozen, and they’ll become Trump’s lap-dog soon enough.  Even if they weren’t, since Trump has already captured the Department of Justice, so it doesn’t matter as much.

The House?  Please.  The Senate?  Not by the evidence so far.

The only check against the damage he’s doing requires at least a few Republicans to act in the general interest.  It won’t take very many Republicans to make that choice, just a few.

And no, I don’t see them doing anything.  Even at this Nixonian stage, all I see are dithering and equivocation.  “Maybe if he does something worse?”

I haven’t a clue what they think they’re waiting for.

Cowards or venial calculation?  Neither does them credit.
