Why do we pretend Trump has a strategy?

Trump hasn’t demonstrated any strategy beyond his own self-interest. Why do we insist on pretending there’s still a Trump Doctrine that he’s kept out of sight? If that’s true, he’s hidden it fantastically well.
Trump is simply a big, greasy sack of publicity stunts and campaign applause lines. That’s it. Every action Trump takes contradicts what he’s said before, and manages to break important things something else. If nothing else, Trump is the king of incompetence. Is that a doctrine?
I’m going with Occam’s Razor: the idea that Trump really is just a shallow fuck-up requires the fewest unsupported assumptions. I don’t have to make up elaborate, hidden plots.
Find another way to explain Trump’s call to Turkish President Erdoğan congratulating him on his ‘referendum victory’. Nothing short of utter stupidity explains that one.
And remember how the Republicans back him up on each lie. That’ll be important, later, when the Republican party tries to run away from their idiotic actions now.
