Republicans Plan a Jim Crow Trial
Republicans aren’t just corrupt; they’re creating a Jim Crow trial obscenity. White racist guys swearing they’ll acquit the white racist guy. Forget any facts or testimony. The fix is already in.

The damaged news media are making the same mistakes covering the impeachment that they make covering the presidency, his administration, the elections, and most politics. Our independent media — a critical democratic institution – are compromised.
The parallels between the Trump Administration and Richard Nixon’s administration should frighten us. The incredible similarities are staggering and worth remembering.
Devin Nunes does his best to repeat the ludicrous Republican story defending Trump. Trouble is, all Nunes has are howlers. Worse, Nunes is trying to spin an entire narrative out of hot air and spit.
What’s impeachment about? Dad stole the military money Mom gave him for the Ukraine kid, they blackmailed the kid into lying about Mom. When Mom caught him, Dad lied about it and hid all the papers. Now all he does is scream at Mom and yell insults at anyone who doesn’t believe she had it coming.
Republicans live in bad faith. Democrats and the media keep worrying about the GOP reaction to this or that. Stop worrying. They’ll lie. Everything they do is in bad faith. It’s who they are.
Remember when Trump announced that ISIS leader al-Baghdadi was dead? How bad is Trump as a leader? He can screw up what should have been a shining moment for the military and his administration. Trump smothered his good news. We go through Trump’s announcement so you don’t have to.
There need to be consequences for doing bad things. If there aren’t, the rule of law fails. But Republicans refuse to correct President Trump in anything. That approach doesn’t work for children; it’s especially bad with a man without internal checks or balances. Trump will compulsively search out the things we hold dear and try to wreck them with a hot, quenchless anger.
Will Republicans ever admit the truth? President Donald Trump is morally indefensible. He’s a self-destructive narcissist who compulsively violates laws and norms. Republicans normally attack someone like Trump reflexively. Instead, because he’s one of them, he gets a free pass. Worse, the Republican party, already out of control, follow him off that cliff. They know they’re killing their party for a generation, but they can’t stop.
Trump will be impeached, and while it’s unlikely, he might be removed from office. Its’ even slightly possible that the equally vile Mike Pence might go with him. The next in succession is the Speaker of the House: Nancy Pelosi. But, as giddy as the idea makes me, it’s both a political problem and an ethical mistake. The New York Times said it first, and while it annoys me, they’re right.
Think about the Republican party’s future. Suppose the corrupt Trump administration ends peacefully instead of a Republican coup. The GOP already showed they would burn America down before they’d relinquish power. They bet their future on America falling before the check comes due. What will they do if we’re still a democracy in a year?
Senator Mitch McConnell has apparently fallen in his home and broken his shoulder. I think I speak for most of us here in wishing him a quick recovery. I say terrible things about McConnell, calling him Moscow Mitch and insisting he’s an anti-American hypocrite. Because they’re true. But that’s politics. I don’t wish him harm, I hope any injuries are mild, and that McConnell has a speedy recovery.
Is the Washington Post turning Republican? They seem to have lost their minds, which is the first prerequisite. I read two recent editorials that were so unusually stilted against Democrats and written on grounds so transparent, so contrived, so off-kilter, they sounded like bad-faith excuses. Doesn’t that resemble today’s Republican party?
I want to touch on the political nonsense and noise around the healthcare industry. Not health care; the healthcare business. It’s a complicated mix, it’s around 18% of our economy, and it remains the biggest Democratic issue nobody can explain. CNN couldn’t handle more than easy catch-phrases and bumper-sticker memes. Here are some facts.
The CNN Presidential debate was educational, but annoying. The moderators focused on attacks and counterattacks. If you diss’ed someone, the moderators let you shout, then allow swirls of attacks and rebuttals. When a candidate ignored their provocation and explained capable, rational policies, CNN cut them off hard at the bell. This was Fight Night!
Consider Both-Siderism, where commentators pretend that both sides of every issue are equally relevant. Some (
Last week, Donald Trump, President and overall idiot, attacked four Democratic Congresspeople in vile, racist ways. He reveled in getting his crowd to change “Send her back.” His goal was to capture the news cycle away from Mueller, and it worked. He rolled in glee, then denied it to the press, lying about his lie, and captured the press again. He’s a master and the media are his marks.
Trump tells brown Congresswomen to go back to the shithole countries they came from. The Bronx and Cincinnati? We know it’s a distraction from kids in cages, but think about the person who would use that insult as a tactic. And the racists, white supremacists, and general meatheads who keeps him in power. But they’re still winning. Everything still hinges on taking back the Senate.
