Russian Invasion; The New Russo-Ukrainian War
Putin’s declarations don’t just repudiate the 2014 peace accord, he denies the agreements that peacefully ended the Soviet Union. Welcome to the new Russo-Ukrainian War.
New or noteworthy events and actions.

Nathan is right about Matt Bai. There’s a lot of lazy illogic and intellectual dishonesty in the chattering class. But there are also good and insightful writers. Even when I disagree with them.
The Times writes, that if Russia invades Ukraine, Biden will hit Russian banks “harder than ever before.” Unless they’re talking artillery it’s too little.
Unlike every earlier administration, President Biden finally ended the endless Afghanistan war. America is finally at peace after two decades of pointless death and destruction.
Lytton, British Columbia, set the Canadian temperature record. It burned to the ground that very day. And our media covered the heat but not the fire. Is climate destruction too scary?
Republicans dropped their policies, goals, and even their politics, voting against popular legislation they knew the Senate would pass anyway. If popularity isn’t what they want, then what are Republicans planning?
Many influential people worked together and drove angry crowds to insurrection. People died from their actions. Now the same people condemn the results and gush about their innocence. They’re liars, every damn one. You can’t trust liars. Their honor is ash; their words empty noise.
In September, Poppy Harlow did real reporting. In her interview of Deputy Press Secretary Morgenstern, she didn’t accept nonsense answers. I think I’m in love.
We cannot envision a coup happening in America. Trump openly called for his DOJ to arrest of his enemies. We shrugged.
That can’t happen here, we think. This is the path of most failed democracies.
Trump is calling for a coup.
When Trump sheepishly admitted he and Melania had caught the virus, his tweet said they’d handle it TOGETHER! Now Trump is back to his normal, prancing, Pro-COVID fool, holding super-spreader events. Where’s Melania?
The New York Times got a copy of Trump’s tax returns. Besides being a tax cheat, Trump has payments of half a billion dollars due in the next few years. That’s why Trump hides behind the Presidency so hard.
Republicans spent months stoking Coronavirus into a wildfire. They want sick Americans. What do they want to do to us while we’re busy trying to survive?
The news media persistently misreport Trump, elevating him to the main subject. They haven’t learned many lessons from 2016. Trump learned how to make everything about him, and our reporters still go along. But it’s easy to fix, if we choose.
The Coronavirus is the “US Pandemic.” Every week, the US government earns the right to wear the crown. The US will top the charts (and graphs) in most cases, total deaths, and absolute worst centralized response coordination, coupled with some of the lowest testings rates. It didn’t have to be this way.
Americans are bad at math. The US daily COVID-19 positive rates only look steady because we aren’t testing any more people.
Every week we test 100K and find another 30K new infections. That’s not what “getting better” looks like. But no, we won’t find any better answers when the best we manage is testing one maybe person in 3000.
Republicans know retribution works. They savage every critic, every time. Reporters hold back the next time, especially the big corporate news, worried them might block their employer next time. Politicians either go quiet or suck up to Trump, so he doesn’t withhold the supplies they need to save people’s lives. And that silence leaves most of us in the dark at the worst possible time. Sorry, but crime pays.
Faced with COVID-19, Republicans believed it was an ideological sin: a crime against Trump. So instead of safety, the Stupid Party steered us directly into a disaster. Get ready for more; this is the Republican preview for climate change.
We sat on our hands for too long, not protecting ourselves, and pretending it won’t matter. Ignoring all the evidence, we say, ‘It isn’t that bad; it’s not real.’ We are idiots. The epidemic is real, it will get much worse, and it will take much longer than we’ve prepared for. And we’re still sitting on our hands.
