What’s Wrong with the Washington Post?
Why do major US news media ignore the Russo-Ukraine War so badly? It’s probably the most important conflict of the decade. The Washington Post was the worst today, but they’re all terrible.

Wonderful, dramatic good news! After months of grueling artillery duels, Ukrainian forces are defeating Russia on every front.
The GOP wields their cisgender White Nationalism against anyone they find upsetting or disobedient, attacking race, religion, Party, sexuality, and gender. They’re overthrowing America to escape pluralism and compromise.
Most American war coverage is terrible. Thankfully Washington Post Ukraine War reporting was a surprisingly accurate and helpful high-level summary of the balance of forces there. That’s refreshing. Kudos to Liz Sly.
Trump’s reactionary Supreme Court overturned decades of rights, needlessly endangering most Americans. This was not the law. It was the tail end of a decades-long conservative effort to stack this tiny body. The answer is easy: expand the court.
The frightening part is when the GOP stopped recruiting new voters to inflame their assault-gun MAGA base. They don’t see their next victory coming from a successful election. The Republican Revolution has already started.
The major new media paint Putin as powerfully masculine; leaving Ukraine as passive, feminine Nell tied to the tracks. It’s a rehash of their Republican/Democrat disaster. The best Ukraine reporting is in Daily Kos.
Did you know that 37% of Americans say the US is losing jobs? In reality, job growth under Biden is high, and unemployment is historically low. We get our news from the media. If we’re misinformed, is that media bias?
Most major media war reporting isn’t just uniformly terrible; it’s biased and nearly criminally incomplete. The best Russo-Ukrainian war reporting I’ve seen is in the Daily Kos.
Biden sometimes tells us the honest truth. Some call these ‘gaffes,’ and the White House immediately denies Biden’s words. That’s self-destructive. Besides, when Biden does slip and say what’s really on his mind, we usually end up better for it.
Biden has carefully limited America’s Ukrainian support to defensive weapons. That was a smart move at the time, but the situation has shifted. With Russia openly touting Empire, it’s time to send Ukraine all the military material they need, including offensive weapons.
Putin’s declarations don’t just repudiate the 2014 peace accord, he denies the agreements that peacefully ended the Soviet Union. Welcome to the new Russo-Ukrainian War.
I’d hoped that Matt Bai’s opinion pieces were terrible because of time shortages, but I was wrong. His other work depends on embedded misinformation and broken logic, reflecting poorly on the Post.
Matt Bai rejects says the Republican ideal of Americanism as fascism and Democratic Americanism ‘radical’.
What can we do after the GOP pushed their voters into sealed conspiracy wormholes? They’ve convinced their core that nothing they read is real. Only trust Republicans. As a nation, can we come back from that? How do we talk to people who aren’t listening?
Here’s a thought. The New Republican Party lives for graft, guns, White Supremacy, and permanent rule. They’re willing to crash our economy for political advantage. Will the GOP sabotage Ukraine – and create a global war – to hurt Dems in the next election?
When Republicans grab at more power, Dems offer them more policy compromises. “Will you be happy if we give you more?” Are we stupid? Republicans won’t govern; they’re breaking democracy’s back.
Is this nation exceptional? If so, I’d think we’d work harder to save America now that Republicans are overthrowing our system of elections. Our democracy is at risk, and we’re sitting on our hands.
