As much as President Crazy-Hair Trump is a rabid bobcat who makes really good TV, it’s possible he’s not really the problem. Or at least, not the only problem.
I know I’ve been railing against Trump since we started this blog, and with good cause. He’s dangerous, he’s psychotic, and I have it on good authority that the guy’s a fucking moron. So yeah, not my favorite president so far.
But…. Outside of his personal actions, Trump’s been remarkably unproductive. Every time he has an opportunity to propose something that might become law, Trump punts it to Congress. Repeal and Replace, Tax ‘Reform’, immigration, he has nothing beyond red-meat bumper-sticker sayings. All that stuff comes to nothing because that’s where it starts. Some of his Executive Orders have been more effective, so there’s that, but no legislation, and no direct results.
At the same time, of course, Trump has been an unmitigated disaster in person, blasting each of his own toes one at a time like it was delicate target shooting. It’s almost entertaining. The guy who hasn’t called the families of four Green Berets who died two weeks ago in Niger, because he still won’t admit they were even killed at all. And lied about it. And today, he lied about Obama not calling or writing about America’s battlefield dead.
Liar.
But….
Who here believes that Trump is secretly managing the ‘religious freedom’ decision that makes it legal to discriminate against LGBTQ people? Or that Trump is directing the recent anti-contraception decisions? Or that Trump is secretly coordinating between pollution companies and the EPA?
Naaa. The man’s a fucking moron.
Pence, though. Huh. He’s not a moron. He’s not a genius, don’t get me wrong — Indiana was ecstatic to see him go — but he’s pretty much staked out the religious zealot side of extremism.
Did you know that while he was Indiana governor, Pence got a religious freedom bill passed that allowed businesses to discriminate against LGBTQ people? It was an economic disaster that the Indiana legislature forced him to rescind, but it passed into law for a few months.
Look familiar?
I hate Trump more than most, but while Trump’s crippling America’s reputation worldwide and ordering the destruction of anything that includes the letter ‘O’, his administration has been ripping out the inner workings of our federal government with a fundamental sense of purpose that most people don’t see. It will take years, or maybe decades to undo that damage.
Trump’s just not that smart, and he’s not at all engaged. It’s like it’s not him doing it.
Oh. Shit.
