Want today’s frightening thought? The only reason we’re talking honestly about Trump is that he’s completely bat-shit crazy. Trump sucks at corruption. If he wasn’t so horrifically incompetent, the opposition would be a minority.
All he’d have to do is just pretend. He wouldn’t have to mean any of it, just pretend, even slightly and disingenuously, that he was actually President of the United States. He could keep stealing all the same money, and work just as industriously to dismantle every democratic institution. But if he just started pretending not to be ripping everyone off, most people would let their eyes glaze over and stop reading every story about treason and corruption.
Instead, Trump says exactly what he feels, over and over. I can’t pretend I know why, but I thank god that he’s not a better criminal.
