Trump’s tweets are making the rounds:
This was after Joe Scarborough and Mika Brzezinski on MSNBC Morning Joe reported that the Time magazine that was framed and hanging in five Trump properties was a forgery. That’s the Time cover with Trump’s smiling face and “TRUMP IS HITTING ON ALL CYLINDERS… EVEN TV!” Even though Trump has actually been on the Time cover eleven freakin’ times, none of those were complimentary enough. Really the forgery is just embarrassing.
And in response, we have Trump’s… um, that. Forget, for now, how creepy and weird Trump gets. Forget that he’s an unapologetic sexual predator. Forget how he attacks women who intimidate him as unattractive. And, please god, forget his reaction to women’s blood. It’s like that’s the scariest thing he can imagine.
Trump is the President of the United States of America. I’m pretty sure we all know that part by now. Joe and Mika are hosts on a cable TV news show. Serious mismatch, and yet Trump is on the defensive.
Poor, poor little snowflake. Why on earth would Trump think that being President meant he shouldn’t be criticized?
Deputy White House Press Secretary Sarah Sanders said, “I don’t think that it’s a surprise to anybody that he fights fire with fire.” Well, I guess that makes–
–No goddamn sense at all! This is the President, for god’s sake! Who’s supposed to be doing actually stuff during the day! And yet he has to tweet about something that’s true, hugely embarrassing, and… well, I already mentioned that it’s true. And Trump managed to fit several lies into his extended tweet, because his lips were probably moving as he typed.
Right, right, right. And, of course, this is the goddamn President, personally attacking the free press in the United States, an institution Trump took an oath to protect with every breath.
So… consequences? On the minus side, Trump’s obvious hatred and disdain toward the press will probably mean more violence against reporters, here and worldwide. Society is shredded just a little more. And, maybe it’s another important step toward the end of America as we know it.
On the plus side, I expect Morning Joe’s ratings, which have been pretty good recently, will get better. So, there’s that.
Some Republicans did express guarded, mild disapproval of Trump’s words. Problem is, these are the same people who went completely ape-shit when the Democratic President had the gall to salute a marine with a coffee cup in his hand. Their current level of disapproval isn’t exactly convincing me they might, you know, ever do something about it.
Yeah. So, Trump is a misogynistic sexual predator, and an amazingly thin-skinned infantile bully. And whose sacred oath of office holds the same weight in his mind as his wedding vows. And he’s just amazingly trivial and mean-spirited about it all.
And we already knew that.
Republicans are OK with these flaws from Trump, and from… really, anyone. They only honor winning. I still struggle that they’re clearly willing to turn away from their main, number one, biggest value ever — defending the country against foreign attack — to solemnly look at past and future Russian intrusions and declaim… ‘Meh’.
We knew about that about them, too. Does today really tell us something new?
It tells us about ourselves. We know Trump is exactly that miserable, and yet we still act like we’re surprised. We know Republicans are only focused on tribal issues, and yet we expect them to act differently this time.
I know it’s hard to keep focused, but we should stop trying to ‘pretend’ all this away. They’re hoping we’ll stop watching. It’s one of their goals, so they can keep stripping science and reason out of our government.
Even when our eyes are closed.
