Trump, who still shrilly insists there was no Russian hacking, issued a string of tweets about the Washington Post detailed, extensive article about that hacking. In his latest tweets, Trump said–
Yeah, I still don’t care. Trump remains a compulsive liar; nothing he says has weight or bearing. That makes the rest moot. It’s a little entertaining to watch, since Trump hadn’t read the story and was apparently got confused while his aides acted out their sock puppet version of it, but the result was the same as always: Trump fixed on a couple of words and free-associates something red-meat.
Nobody’s surprised by Trump’s combination of indifference and illiteracy. We’re already gotten used to his mendacity, too. Of course he lied.
Today, the Washington Post reported that, one month before the 2016 election, Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner got a $285M loan from Deutsche Bank. The loan is from a German bank because every American bank stopped making loans to anyone named ‘Trump’ years ago. (Serious deadbeats, ya know?) The new loan is way too big for the cruddy little property, it’s from a bank under US investigation for Russian money laundering, and Kushner actually had to sign a personal guarantee for the loan (so he’s still on the hook after he folds up the shell company). And yet — wait for it — Kushner failed to disclose the loan on his security clearance form, or in response to specific questioning.
Again, with Trump leading what’s far-and-away the most corrupt administration in modern memory, we’ve gotten used to bribes in the hundreds of millions of dollars. Same news as last week’s impossibly huge ‘loan’ from Russian oligarchs laundered through shell corporations or offshore banks. We don’t care.
The White House issued a press release warning that “The United States has identified potential preparations for another chemical weapons attack by the Assad regime that would likely result in the mass murder of civilians, including innocent children.” They warn about a ‘heavy price.’
Sean Spicer is still operating under the presumably permanent policy that forbid all reporters from taking any video, or physically recording anything he says. Next, he’s going to take their pens and paper. Anyway, Spicer warned that this means….
Nope. Don’t care what he says, either. I only quote the press release because it’s in writing. And it’s not as if Spicer had standing before that nonsense started. What a goober.
Yes, I hope Trump won’t open up a new, huge, damaging, pointless war in a volatile region with world-wide geopolitical consequences, just to distract us from his latest scandal. But I’m not betting against it.
Really, I’m not losing the will to live.
