Look over there!  Shiny!!

Many, many ages ago in Trump years — might be four weeks — I wrote an article Today’s Distraction , wondering what kind of distraction Trump would throw in front of us to distract us from the Michael Flynn Russian scandal.

And as the press uncovers another layer of dirty linen, we get a new helping of Trump Crazy. So after yesterday’s increasingly specific stories about Russian meetings and Russian oligarch cash, today Trump decided to try sliming Obama with accusations of government wiretaps.

Is it worth debunking this? Trump is the President. Maybe he forget, but as hard as I try, I can’t. He runs the executive branch, and has access to any records they have there. If the FBI (or any other executive agency) did tap his phones, all he has to do is ask them, and then he could show us the specific records. Yes, it’s that easy; he runs the show. Doesn’t matter if it’s compartmentalized or highly classified, because he’s the goddamn President, and can get — and declassify, if he decides — anything he asks for.

So all the news coverage that’s asking people who aren’t the president anything are way past the point.  If what Trump said was true, he’d already have the proof in his tiny little hands.
