Trump Talks about strongly supporting NATO. And then swears that money is starting to pour in from our partners. He conflates that money with respect from our partners, as if they are the same thing.
He talks about respect as measured by the money our partners provide. NATO payments have been a perennial problem, but making money into respect is so telling, chilling, and sad.
Please god, may he be winding down. He’s talking in vague generalities again about happy little women safe with their children in our cities.
He’s probably trying to be poetic. Maybe he’s succeeding. I can’t tell. He’s simply so terrible to watch, I just can’t wait for it to end.
And it’s over! Thank god! The section of Democratic representatives in white — suffragettes? — immediately get up to leave. Can’t blame them. Heck, all the Democrats have been filing out as quickly as they can. Brian Williams is doing his corporate thing, repeating Trump’s speech as if his points are simply true. Trump is working the crowd on his way out, but he’s walking through the Republican side because the Democrats are mostly gone.
