This is the time to see if the Republican Party stands for more than staying in power.
Republicans have certainly voiced their preference for a strong national defense and security. Caution around Russian aggression was something they spoke of extensively. It’s why it’s so odd how there’s been almost no Republican response to the Russian interference in the 2016 election.
The Hill newspaper quoted House Select Intelligence Committee Chairman Devin Nunes (R-CA) in “No investigation into Flynn”:
“Executive Privilege” is something the President can invoke, if he chooses. Trump hasn’t. “Executive Privilege” isn’t something automatic. Congress doesn’t assume the privilege, and especially not when there are questions of illegal foreign influence.
But they are talking about investigating all those nagging leaks. Good to know what their priorities really lie.
