More Republicans are echoing the theme that dissent is treason:
“It’s absolutely a success” — Spicer says on Yemen raid, and adds that any opinion to the contrary does a “disservice” to deceased SEAL
— Mark Murray (@mmurraypolitics) February 8, 2017
Spicer went on to say that if Coretta Scott King was still with us, that she would support Senator Sessions’s nomination. Despite her letter tarring him as a segregationist.
Der Spiegel wrote this paragraph in an editorial saying “Europe Must Defend Itself Against A Dangerous President”:
It is literally painful to write this sentence, but the president of the United States is a pathological liar. The president of the U.S. is a racist (it also hurts to write this). He is attempting a coup from the top; he wants to establish an illiberal democracy, or worse; he wants to undermine the balance of power. He fired an acting attorney general who held a differing opinion from his own and accused her of “betrayal.” This is the vocabulary used by Nero, the emperor and destroyer of Rome. It is the way tyrants think.
Update (Feb. 9, 2017) — After Sen. John McCain (R-Az) criticized the Yemen mission as a failure, President Trump lashed out in a string of tweets:
Sen. McCain should not be talking about the success or failure of a mission to the media. Only emboldens the enemy! He’s been losing so….
…long he doesn’t know how to win anymore, just look at the mess our country is in – bogged down in conflict all over the place. Our hero..
..Ryan died on a winning mission ( according to [Secretary of Defense] General Mattis), not a “failure.” Time for the U.S. to get smart and start winning again!
— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) February 9, 2017
The raid was described either as an assassination attempt or an intelligence gathering mission, but it turned into a lengthy battle with al-Qaida fighters in which a Navy SEAL, Ryan Owens, was killed, a $75 million aircraft was lost and many civilian casualties, including women and children.
White House spokesman Sean Spicer has called the raid “absolutely a success.”
The White House began holding ‘listening sessions’ about veterans’ issues today, but didn’t invite the biggest veterans’ groups: American Legion, Disabled American Veterans, or the Veterans of Foreign Wars. No reason was given.
The committee approved Jeff Sessions nomination on a mostly party-line vote, and the full Senate approved his nomination 52-47. Joe Manchin (D-WV) crossed over and voted ‘yes’, but he was the only Democrat.
The Elections Assistance Commission is responsible for implementing safe, verifiable election machines, and help the states improve their election systems. Between the new electronic voting machines and the possibility of Russian hacking, it’s an important role. The House Administration Committee, in another party-line effort, just voted to abolish the committee. Rep. Gregg Harper (R-Miss.), chairman of the House Administration Committee, said the Election Assistance Commission had “outlived” its usefulness. “It is time for the EAC to be officially ended,” said Harper. “We don’t need fluff.” We’ll see if the House votes on his bill.
We still don’t want anyone’s refugees. We do this in the name of security, even though refugees bring prosperity. We object in the name of safety, even though refugees present orders of magnitude less risk than any random group of native-born Americans. We swear this isn’t racism or bigotry, and take offense at the suggestion that any of this is actually true.
Still no Trump tax returns. Conflicts of interest getting worse, very quickly. None of the other lies addressed or even acknowledged.
